Blair Atholl

Blair Atholl is a large Highland village lying just off the A9 about 7 miles north of Pitlochry.

The focal point of the village is Blair Castle, Scotland’s most visited private Historic House, where you can experience 700 years of history in 30 rooms of fascinating treasures and hear the castle piper playing every day. The castle estates include the 10 acre Hercules Garden and the huge conifers of Diana’s grove as well as miles of way marked footpaths to suit all levels of walkers. In August each year, the Bowmore Blair Castle international Horse Trials and Country Fair is one of Scotland’s premier equestrian events.

Close to the castle, Atholl Country Life Museum is a lovingly tended collection telling the story of the people and working life of the area. Next to it, Atholl Mountain Bike Hire is the first port of call for exploring scenic off road routes and the new facilities at Corporate Shooting Scotland let you take aim on the most up to date simulated shooting equipment. Golfers meanwhile will enjoy Blair Atholl Golf Club.

The countryside around Blair Atholl is ideal for walking and cycling. Remote glens such as Glen Tilt, Glen Tarf and Glen Fender contain some of the finest scenery in Scotland. The falls of Bruar are a notable beauty spot to the north of the village and lie close to the famed House of Bruar, an unsurpassed quality shopping complex known as the ‘Harrods of the Highlands’ and reputedly located on the exact halfway point between Edinburgh and Inverness. From here it is a short walk to the picturesque hamlets of Calvine and Struan at the head of glen Errochty.
