Meikleour and The Five Lochs

Meikleour is a small village five miles south of Blairgowrie that is famed for the Meikleour Beech Hedge, officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest hedge in the world. This was planted in 1746 and now measures 600m long and 30m high. It is located alongside the main A93 road with parking and interpretational panels telling the story.

The 5 lochs stretch our west of Blairgowrie along the road to Dunkeld. This is a beautiful area of quiet country roads ideal for easy walking and cycling. The lochs are popular with both anglers and birdwatchers. The largest Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld has the Scottish Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre where you can view birds at close quarters from hides and gather information about differed local species including breeding osprey.
