Scone
Scone lies just a few miles to the north east of Perth and comprises of two districts, old Scone and New Scone.
Old Scone lies on the A93, the Deeside Tourist Route that runs from Perth to Aberdeen. This was once the site of a Royal City and ancient abbey where the King’s of Scotland came to be crowned on the Stone of Destiny. Her you will find the magnificent Scone Palace and Grounds, one pf Scotland’s finest stately homes. The palace is open from Spring to Autumn and contains magnificent collections of ivories, porcelain and furniture. The expansive grounds are part of the Perthshire Gardens Collection and include the unique Murray Star Maze and many spectacular North American trees collected in the 19th century by David Douglas, one of the pioneers of Scottish plant collecting, who introduced more than 200 new plants to Britain.
New Scone is a residential village lying on the A94 trunk road. Just to the north of the village lies Perth Aerodrome, a small privately run airfield used primarily for pilot training. Here you can enjoy trial flying lessons with Tayside Aviations or micro-lighting with the Scottish Aero Club. Just beyond the airport, Dunsinance Hill Vitrified Fort gives magnificent views over the surrounding countryside from ground level.
