Stone
Natural stone can be utilised throughout the construction of a dwellinghouse, and few materials match the durability, when used appropriately and, ecological advantages when it is extracted from open quarries. Although not sustainable, stone is a plentiful resource, capable of reuse when laid in weak mortar or as slate on a roof when typically 75%-90% of old slate can re reused. However with both newly quarried materials, and re-used materials, it is important to consider transportation, because due to its high weight the energy used to transport stone over large distances can be excessive.
